Meet the MiAlgae Changemakers! 🤝

John Willing - Production Operator

Our Process Operator, John Willing, gives us a glimpse into his role at MiAlgae, chats Scottish weather versus Scottish views, and shares his life away from the desk.

Tell us a bit about your professional background and your role at MiAlgae
I have worked in manufacturing since 2005. Most of my career has been in the whisky industry working as a Production Operator before being promoted to Team Leader having gained quite a bit of knowledge and experience across all processes involved in day-to-day production.  My role at MiAlgae is challenging with no two days the same -from setting up hose pipes to troubleshooting process issues - a day in the life of a Process Operator is hectic but highly rewarding.

What’s the work environment and team dynamic like at MiAlgae?
Working at MiAlgae has one problem... the Scottish weather!  Working outdoors can be great, but unfortunately, we don’t see a lot of sunshine. We are however spoiled with lovely scenery and views of Ben Lomond which certainly makes up for this!

What excites you most about the future of MiAlgae?
We are a small team at MiAlgae who work well together and are all pushing in the same direction. The company has a very bright future ahead with a product that could be a complete game-changer. I am extremely excited to be part of the story and the journey ahead.

What keeps you busy away from the desk?
Outside work is also quite busy being married with two kids… Corey (13) and Paige (8), and the family whippet called Iza.  We enjoy family holidays, days out, walks - family time is very important to all of us.  I also like most sports a lot and recently took up lawn bowls which I really enjoy… getting old also 😂.

Fun fact about you?

I’m an avid football fan and was born on Saturday 23rd May 1981, the day Scotland beat the Auld enemy on their own patch at Wembley, with John Robertson converting the penalty low to the bottom right corner.  My middle name is Scott after Scotland’s exceptional display!
